The prostate is a gland in the reproductive system of the human male body that tends to dysfunction when affected by the disease. While there are end number of advanced treatments for prostate cancer, it's better to be prepared and safe by knowing the symptoms and risks of the disease in advance.

Prostate Cancer Diagnosis:

The doctor first interacts with the patient to know whether one has observed any signs & symptoms of prostate cancer. There are a variety of tests to diagnose a person with this disease but screening, prostate specific antigen(PSA), and digital rectum exam are more preferred. If these results suggest that a person is affected, one has to go through a prostate biopsy for confirmation.

Prostate Cancer Treatment Options:

Surgery – The most common being radical prostatectomy, where a surgeon removes the prostate gland and some tissues around it.

Radiation therapy – Treatments like external beam radiation and brachytherapy (internal radiation) use high rays to kill cancer cells.

Hormone therapy – Androgen deprivation therapy, to cut the male hormones from assisting cancer to spread in other parts of the body.

Immunotherapy – Engineering the immunity T cells to produce a response that helps to cure cancer.

Chemotherapy – Use of anti-cancer drugs like docetaxel (Taxotere) cabazitaxel (Jevtana), mitoxantrone (Novantrone), estramustine (Emcyt) to kill the cancer cells. These are injected into the bloodstream by veins or mouth.

Vaccine treatment – Sipuleucel-T(Provenge) vaccine to attack cancer cells.

Immunotherapy – the leading treatment for Prostate Cancer.

Immunotherapy was no less than a breakthrough for Prostate cancer as the first indication approved by FDIA for an active immunotherapy as a cancer treatment was given for this particular type of cancer.
