When the cells of primary cancer break away, grow and settle in another part of the body, the primary cancer is called secondary cancer. For instance, if an individual has lung cancer and that spreads to the liver, he/she has primary lung cancer with secondary cancer in the bowel.
How Does it Spread?
There are certain cancers that spread either through:
1) Blood system or Haematogenous Spread
2) Lymphatic system: It is the system of glands as well as tubes in the human body that help in filtering body fluid and fight infection.
3) Transplantation/ implantation: Spread through surgical equipments during operations.
4) Body cavity spread: Spread through pleural, pericardial or peritoneal cavity.
