Oral Cancer usually appears as a sore in the mouth that does not go away. It includes cancer of lips, tongue, the floor of the mouth, and throat, etc. It could be dangerous if not diagnosed and treated early.
But avoiding these 5 habits could keep oral cancer at bay. These habits are:
1) Excess exposure to Sun: Apart from causing skin damage and skin cancer, the harmful UV rays are also responsible for the growth of cancerous cells in the mouth. The ulcers, cracks, etc. becomes aggravated due to long exposure to the sun rays. Using sunscreen before moving out could help a lot in avoiding UV rays.
2) Unhealthy Diet: Consuming grilled and fried food every now and then may harm the lesions in the mouth. Thus, it is advised to go for boiled, baked or steamed diet that is not only healthy but keeps oral cancer away.
3) Poor Oral Hygiene: Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) causes oral cancer and it grows when proper oral hygiene is not maintained. To avoid oral cancer, bleeding of gum and other teeth issues, make sure to brush your teeth and floss them on a regular basis.
4) Smoking: Smoking is one of the major cause behind numerous cancers including the cancer of the mouth. Avoiding cigars, pipes, and other tobacco products is necessary to avoid oral cancer.
5) Drinking: Another contributor to oral cancer is alcohol. In 70% of the cases, hard drinks are the reason behind the cancer of the mouth. Those who drink heavily are 30 times closer to the risk of developing oral cancer. Hence, it is highly recommended to quit drinking to keep oral cancer at bay.
