Here we are not referring to any smartphone or tablet but an invention that is no less harmful than cigarettes. Yes! The electronic gadget that could cause cancer is an E-Cigarette.
Though many claims that an E-Cigarette is nicotine free but experts have warned that it does contain nicotine and is harmful. This is so because it contains toxins that promote the growth of the tumor.
What is an E-Cigarette?
E-Cigarette or Electronic Cigarette is a device that allows its user to inhale vapor containing toxic substances. These cigarettes are operated by battery and the liquid inside it is heated using a heating element ultimately releasing the vapor.
What are the components of an E-Cigarette?
The main component of an E-Cigarette is the cartridge that has the e-liquid. This e-liquid has nicotine extracted from tobacco. As per initial lab tests conducted by FDA in the year 2009, a detectable level of cancer-causing chemicals were found in E-Cigarettes.
Does the secondhand emission of smoke from E-Cigarettes cause any harm?
Though E-Cigarettes do not emit smoke but there is no cent-percent evidence that proves that secondhand emissions are completely safe for non-users.
So, what are the harms of an E-Cigarette?
- As per mirror.co.uk, “E-cigarettes can cause cancer even when they are nicotine-free, scientists have claimed.”
- Nicotine exposure during pregnancy affects maternal and fetal health.
- Diacetyl – a chemical found in e-cigarettes- can cause serious lung disease.
- Large doses of nicotine may also lead to nausea and vomiting.
- Nicotine may also lead to respiratory depression.
Bottom Line
Though an alternate, but it could have more or less the same effect as a cigarette. Hence, an E-cigarette should be avoided to keep many health complications at bay.
