You must have come across the term Carcinogens but do you exactly know what are they? Below is a brief that defines them, tells you where are they present and also makes you aware on how to avoid them.
What are Carcinogens?
Anything that is responsible for tumour growth and becomes cancerous in the body is called carcinogen. It can be a physical, chemical or biological agent.
Where are they present?
- In protein rich foods that are cooked at a high temperature on barbecue or by other method.
- Cigarettes are carcinogenic for both smokers and passive smokers.
- Pesticide DDT is regarded as carcinogenic.
- Fumes from gasoline are toxic.
- Welding fumes are carcinogenic.
- UV rays are carcinogenic for they cause skin cancer.
- Radiation from X rays is cancerous.
- Repeated local injury and recurrent irritations or chronic inflammations can cause cancer.
Most of things that we use today are taking us closer to cancer and thus, it is very much necessary to avoid those things in order to avoid carcinogens and ultimately cancer.
How do we avoid carcinogens?
Small measures can go a long way in preventing cancer:
- Eat organic.
- Wash raw produce in fresh water to remove pesticides.
- Avoid inhaling fumes, pollutants, smoke and wood dust.
- No tobacco or nicotine, active or passive.
- Keep your immune system strong with proper rest, exercise and healthy diet.
