Rectal cancer means growth of abnormal cancer cells in the lower part of the colon that bridges anus and the large bowel.

Here are some facts about Rectal Cancer:

· The actual cause of rectal cancer is still behind the veil but risk factors include increasing age (over 50), high fat diet, family history, etc.

· Sunshine, a plentiful source of vitamin D, is a terrific preventer of colorectal cancer. In case one cannot spend around half an hour in sunlight then he/she should take Vitamin D supplement.

· Surgery of rectal cancer can both treat as well as reduce symptoms and, in some people, the surgery may even remit the cancer.

· Once cured, the rectal cancer may show up again in the body. Hence, a proper and regular follow up is necessary.

· 1 in 20, which is 5%, men and women will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer during their life.
