A mother is the greatest blessing of our lives. With International Mother’s Day on 8th May 2016, most of us are planning to bring a big grin on our mother’s face with some or the other surprise.

But keeping her away from any health complication could also infuse her life with joy and happiness. One such major health problem is Breast Cancer. Studies suggest that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her life. As women with age above 40 years are more prone to breast cancer, thus, it is essential to get your mother screened for breast cancer in order to avoid any further complication.

So, what is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a malignant growth that begins in the tissues of the breast. It is one of the most common cancers among women around the world. Therefore, it is important for women to be breast aware.

Risk Factors of Breast Cancer

  • Family history: It increases the risk by two to three folds.

  • Reproductive factors: Late menopause and late age at first childbirth

  • Age: Breast cancer risk increases after a certain age (above 40)

  • Lifestyle-related factors: Using oral contraceptives

  • Obesity and heavy drinking

  • A change in size or shape of one or both the breast
