What is Ovarian Cancer?

Ovarian cancer is a cancer of the woman’s ovaries. One on each side of the uterus, ovaries are connected to it via ligaments. The ovaries are responsible for storage of eggs which are released every month for the purpose of fertilization. It also secretes female sex hormones in the body. However, these non-specific symptoms could be due to less serious diseases but if the signs are getting worse, it can indicate ovarian cancer. Since, women do not witness signs in early stages, ovarian cancer is mostly detected in advanced stages.

How is Ovarian Cancer diagnosed?

There are a number of tests which can be used to help diagnose ovarian cancer such as transvaginal ultrasound (which are performed through the vagina), CT Scan, and blood tests. Laproscopy and biopsy may also be done if required.
