More dangerous than the disease itself are the myths and superstitions hovering around it. It pressurizes the patient to undertake those activities which otherwise is strictly prohibited in that particular disease. Cancer is no exception to the above mentioned dilemma. Below has been busted some of the myths which are related to the cancer.
1) Don’t eat sweet or sugar products in cancer – Though the cancer cells consume more sugar than the normal cells but eating sugar doesn’t make the cancer worse. Though it might lead to obesity and weight gain.
2) Superfoods keep cancer at bay – Superfoods include foods like broccoli, blueberries, garlic, etc. Superfoods are a marketing hype for the aforementioned types of foods. Though they all provide health benefits to the body but nowhere it’s proven that they prevent cancer.
3) Cancer is a contagious disease – Cancer does not spread from one person to another person easily as in the case of common cold. Though there is an exception in case of transplantation of organ or tissue. If the donor had cancer in past then the receiver might be at an increasing risk of developing cancer.
4) Behavior speed up the recovery – It is normal to feel sad, angry and melancholy when affected with cancer. There is no written proof that staying happy and joyful could lead to a speed up recovery. Though having a positive attitude, faith and maintaining social connection could help a lot in fighting against cancer but without proper medication the recovery is not possible.
5) Cancer treatment options only drills hole in the pocket – There is word in the air that therapies to treat cancer is only 3% effective. Well, this is not true. It is not a walk in the park to treat cancer patient who are in the advanced stage of the disease. They are effective to a large extent and aids in prolong life. Though some treatment options have their own side effects too.
6) There is no progress in field of cancer – There has been a continuous progress in the field of cancer to treat the patients effectively.
