When a cancer patient undergoes treatment procedures, he sometimes faces certain heart related complications. Managing these complications is challenging for both the oncologist and the cancer patient. Because in most of the cases the cancer patients, going under the treatment, have crossed the age bar of 50, the chances are pretty high that they already have heart complications when they are diagnosed with cancer. Drugs offered may develop heart complications even in those patient with no Congestive Heart Failure History.
Certain Chemotherapy drugs weaken heart muscles. The complications may occur in couple of weeks or in a span of 10 years. Some of these drugs are used to treat leukemias in teenagers but they can create heart problems in long-term survivors of cancer.
Symptoms of Heart Complications
- Feeling excessive fatigue.
- Trouble in breathing.
- Swelling in ankles.
- Tightness or congestion in chest.
Treatment of Cancer Related Heart Problems
- If the cancer patient had a history of heart related disease then she/he should inform the oncologist before undergoing any radiation therapy.
- Careful monitoring of the heart is required after radiation therapy to cope with any complications.
- A blood test that measure Brain Natriuretic Peptide should be undertaken to detect risk of heart failure.
Immunotherapy – An Exception
At Cancer Healer Center, immunotherapy, a radiation free therapy, is used to treat cancer patients. It is completely painless and there are no side effects like Heart Failure, Hair Loss, Teeth Loss, etc. attached to it.
