A new study indicates that many American women with locally advanced breast cancer do not receive recommended radiation therapy even after mastectomy. The research survey tracked 57,000 breast cancer cases in the United States during 1998 and 2011. Only 65 percent of patients received follow-up radiation therapy.
The researcher team claim that factors such as ethnicity, income and education level, health insurance, where patients lived or where they were treated or the presence of other health problems did not influence whether these patients received radiation therapy. The perplexed observers cannot identify why more than a third of patients skipped post-op radiation remains unclear.
But, one fact which can be theorised by this observation is that women with breast cancer were not comfortable with radiation therapy and hence chose to skip it even after mastectomy. If you are positive about your treatment, you will not skip it.
What is Radiation Therapy?
Radiation therapy is one of the options for cancer treatment. It uses extremely high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells which prevents from spreading. It is observed that the radiation may be external, using special machines, or internal, from radioactive substances that a doctor places inside your body.
Cancer Healer team says that radiation therapy can damage normal cells as well as cancer cells. As a cancer specialist the mode of treatment must be carefully planned to minimize side effects. Common side effects include skin changes and fatigue. Other side effects depend on the part of your body being treated.
If normal cells get damaged the radiation can do more harm than good.
As a holistic wellness specialist, cancer specialists at Cancer Healer suggest that treating cancer with Immunotherapy is very subtle approach. It can heal and treat cancer naturally without damaging the body.
What does Immunotherapy do?
The Immunotherapy medications mediate the immune system to attack only cancer cells and not healthy ones in the body. There is no side-effect reported with Immunotherapy.
Thus, Immunotherapy can be considered as good option to treating the body against any cancer return after mastectomy. Know more about the treatment here: Cancer Healer Center
