Cell phone these days have become an organ of the body. Without it we just can’t survive. In a blink of an eye cell phones turned from a luxury to a necessity. From small childrens to mature adults, everyone now is very much dependent on the cell phone. Though framing a direct nexus between cell phone and brain cancer is not justice but the rays and frequency that a cell phone uses might increase the risk of brain cancer and other tumors in head and neck region of the body.

What are these harmful frequencies?

Our phones send and receive signals from nearby towers using radio frequency waves. These waves are also called non-ionizing radiation. Radio frequency waves don’t have that much energy that they can damage the DNA inside cells but they can break the chemical bonds present in DNA which could heat up the body tissues.

How do I get affected?

The phone receives radio frequency waves through antenna which the manufactures places on the rear side of the phone. During a call the antenna is nearest to the brain and this is how you exposed to the radio frequency waves. The more the time you spend on the call the more you get exposed to the waves. If you are talking to the person on other end over speaker mode then you get less exposed to the rays compared to when you talk without speaker mode. Other factors like distance from the cell tower, model of the phone, availability of cell phone in the area also play an important role in exposing you to these waves.

Does Cell Phone cause cancer?

International Agency for Research on Cancer which is an integral part of the World Health Organization agreed that there exist a limited evidence that radiation emitting from cell phone is a cancer-causing agent also called carcinogenic. As a result of the aforementioned evidence, the International Agency for Research on Cancer or IARC has categorized the radio frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) as possibly cancer causing agent.

Lastly, it is advisable that if cell phone is not in use keep it at a safe distance so as to avoid the harmful radiations. Also, one should not spend hours on cell phone but use it for specific purposes only.
