Stress is natural and it can't be avoided completely. But plunging into stress for weeks and months may bring you closer to the risk of cancer. Therefore, it is recommended by health experts to keep stress at bay as it is one of the primary cause behind various diseases and disorders.
Short term stress is not harmful
There exist two types of stress. They are Short term Stress and Long Term Stress.
· Short Term Stress: Stress which surrounds you when you face crowd for speech, or nervousness before an event, falls under short term stress. This stress is manageable and eventually it fades away once the event passes.
· Long Term Stress: Long term stress, also known as chronic stress, is catastrophic. When a person finds himself trapped in a difficult situation that seems to have no solution for weeks and months, that person becomes the victim of long term stress.
Stress and Cancer
When someone is hit by long term stress or chronic stress then it weakens the immune system of that person and hence making him/her prone to plethora of diseases. One of those diseases is Cancer. The long term stress also leads a person to depression and problems related to digestion.
There are certain growth factors that increase your blood supply and chronic stress speeds up their production which in turns speeds up the development of cancerous tumors.
Adopt these ways to manage stress
· Consult a psychiatrist or psychologist to manage your long term stress or get rid of it.
· Adopt healthy practices such as yoga or meditation
· Take proper sleep
· Avoid alcohol and quit smoking
· Reduce the intake excessive caffeine and sugar
· Consume a healthy diet
· Listen to soothing music as it helps in lowering blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety.
