Whether it is Sun Tanning or Indoor Tanning, ultraviolet rays affects your skin in both the cases. Also, people who expose their skin to tanning during young age are closer to the risk of melanoma, a type of skin cancer.
How UV rays harm your body?
Popular among young women and teenage girls, tanning is considered as a way to look more attractive. But the Ultraviolet rays that the skin absorbs cause:
· Skin Damage
· Wrinkles
· Change in the texture of skin
· Skin Cancer
Tan Myths
Tan protects against sunburn: Tan itself is a damage by UV rays and it does little to protect against sunburn.
Tanning offers glowing skin: Tanning means exposing your body to UV rays and getting yourself closer to the risk of skin cancer. So it is less of a beauty factor and more of a risk factor.
Indoor tanning is safe: Though one could control the exposure of UV rays but the intense UV rays in indoor tanning anyways increases the risk of melanoma.
So, how you can protect yourself?
- Avoid Tanning as it can lead an individual to long term skin damage and bring him/her closer to the risk of Skin Cancer.
- Shield yourself against rays with proper clothing.
- Wear Sunglasses to protect your eyes.
- Use Sunscreen of at least SPF 30 when you move out in Sun.
